Hola and welcome to Latina Summit 2012. I am pleased you have chosen to visit us and find out more about how you can be involved in the promotion of Latinas across the great state of New Jersey.
LUPE is proud to bring you New Jersey’s first Latina Summit 2012, a convening of leaders and advocates on issues that affect our Latino families and communities. This historical event recognizes the values, strengths and determination of Latinas throughout the state. As LUPE celebrates its 10th anniversary, the Latina Summit 2012 reaffirms our commitment to Civic Engagement, Young Latina Leadership, Health and Wellness and Business Development.
LUPE recognizes that what we have achieved and what we hope to achieve can only happen in collaboration with our members and women like you. Any success we achieve as an organization is due in large measure to the struggles and sacrifices that many Latinas before us made by opening doors and clearing the path for us all. With pride and passion, we stand on their shoulders and strive to continue that call to service. We pay it forward by creating pathways to success and achievements for all Latinas.
Join us on September 29th in a collective voice to Educate, Empower and Engage - toward a unified goal of accelerating the advancement of Latinas in New Jersey!
As the President of LUPE Fund, Inc., I have been both blessed and privileged to take on this charge. Together with you, I walk in faith and work with hope... knowing that we have the power to make a difference.

On September 29th, 2012, Douglass Residential College at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, proudly hosts the Latina Summit developed by LUPE. We are honored to partner with your important organization as it advances the power and accomplishments of Latinas in the state of New Jersey.
Douglass, the undergraduate women’s college at Rutgers, has been committed to promoting women’s excellence and empowerment since 1918. As many in New Jersey know, the college itself has undergone many changes, but at its heart remains committed to advancing women’s lives. Douglass is now a specialized women’s educational community open to all undergraduate women on the New Brunswick campus. We are devoted to our students’ academic success, career preparedness and leadership. We offer this through a four-year comprehensive curriculum, mentoring, and innovative programming with an option for an all-women residential experience.
As the 10th dean of Douglass, I’m honored to continue the College’s great tradition by partnering with LUPE, an association of women also dedicated to promoting the improvement and empowerment in women’s lives. Like LUPE, Douglass is deeply committed to the success of Latina students. Indeed, just as the Hispanic population has been increasing at Rutgers, so it has at Douglass. Our incoming class of last year boasted 16.5% Hispanic students.
As a college dean, my job is to prepare our women students for academic excellence, career preparation, and leadership to provide twenty first century solutions to current social problems. We hope that this world will be unlike any we’ve known till now – different and better. This is why a conference dedicated solely to the achievements of Latinas is so important, for our lives today and for an improved future.
On behalf of Rutgers and Douglass, I welcome you to our campus and look forward to meeting you at this ground-breaking event.
